Multi-award-winning singer Zahara’s death has left many South African’s who shared their deepest condolences on radio stations and different social media platforms very sad.
Zahara was known and loved by many for her humility and her ability to leave people in tears with her angelic voice.
Raised in the Phumlani township, a small informal settlement outside East London, the singer did not allow the City of Gold to change who she was, always remaining grounded and showing love to people.
Visiting McGyver Mukwevho’s Podcast and Chill with MacG two years ago, the singer addressed many things about her life and music career. At the end of the session, the podcaster asked the Destiny hitmaker what she would like to be remembered as.
Asking Zahara this question, MacG said:
“What do you want to be remembered as, when it’s all said and done?”
Zahara responded:
“Oh my God, I want to be remembered as a girl next door that changed lives, that’s it. A girl next door.”
The singer continued and shared:
“Whether you’re in a shack (uhlala chi shack), just know I am next door. Whether in a suburb , just know I am next door because my music is here to inspire you, so a girl next door whenever you need her, she’s there to inspire and give you hope.”
