Miss Universe Nigeria contestant Chidimma Vanessa Onwe Adetshina might not come back to South Africa amidst her Miss SA participation withdrawal.
With Miss SA 2024 Mia Le Roux’s recent win, one would think that the Chidimma saga would die down. However, it has caused many internet users to share their thoughts regarding her participation in the Miss Universe Nigeria beauty pageant.
As per reports by news publication TimesLive, during an interview with Cool FM Nigeria, the Miss Universe Nigeria contestant and former Miss SA top 9 finalist said that she was reconsidering coming back to South Africa as she has received a lot of backlash from many internet users regarding her nationality and participation in the competition.
Whilst in Nigeria, Chidimma continued to face backlash after promoting skin-lightening products while competing.
“It’s been amazing. I’m not even looking forward to going back to South Africa. I want to explore more. I want to stay longer and see what happens next, adding, “There were times when I’d literally cry myself to sleep and just wonder, ‘Why me?’ I wanted to end it. But then sometimes when difficult moments like this happen, you always need to look at the positive side of things as well. I had to change my mindset and see that maybe out of all of this, greatness is coming.”
Despite just entering the beauty pageant in Nigeria, Chidimma has gained massive popularity with internet users all over Africa, leading to votes of 13k.
Speaking to news publication DisptachLIVE, she said, “I will make a powerful impact. Many people are just as diverse as I am, and I don’t want us to live in a society or community where we are excluded because of our diverse backgrounds. I want us to be included, celebrated, appreciated, loved and accepted.”
