A revelation by former Gagasi FM presenter Penny Ntuli on how much the radio station was offering to pay her monthly left many internet users fuming at the thought of receiving R2800 a month.
The urban contemporary radio station based in Durban’s Umhlanga came under fire after Penny cleared the rumours that were circulating that she was leaving the radio station to pursue better things.
Clearly heartbroken to not be able to return to her job that she loved dearly, Penny issued a statement detailing why she could not go back to the station after she had been with them for two years.
“To confirm the ‘rumours,’ yebo ngiyashiya emsebenzini (yes, I am quitting my job). It was time to renew contracts and I was given the opportunity to come back this season. I gladly accepted the new show until I was told ukuthi (that) I’ll be getting paid R 2800 p/m. (Something not too far from what I was getting paid the past 2 years),” shared the 26-year-old.
Penny shared that she felt disrespected by the R2800 monthly payment offer and calmed herself down before going back to her employer to ask for them to review her salary. The radio show host shares that she explained to her boss Ayanda Melansi that with that salary, she won’t be able to take care of her family, nor will she be able to get credit. Ayanda’s alleged response was that she should look for other jobs to balance her R2800 payment offer from the radio station.

Internet users called out the radio station for offering the presenter R711.98 per show commenting:
What Gagasi is doing to young black women is absolutely diabolical.
Penny Ntuli alleges that she was offered R711.98 per show, meaning she was offered R2800/month as a damn salary? What’s that, honestly?
That is exploitation of the highest order, and it’s absolutely unacceptable pic.twitter.com/L1998IrrXf

My fear for Penny Ntuli is that she might have just killed her career on radio before it even started with that story on Gagasi FM.
