TV presenter and rapper Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye, recently made a brief court appearance following charges connected to rape, attempted murder, and assault in a series of alleged incidences that took place between 2006 and 2009. In pursuit to clear his name, he handed himself over to the authorities last year and appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court, where he was released on a R10 000 bail.
The rapper’s alleged crimes are reported to have involved four victims. One of them was actress, Amanda Du Pont who first accused her ex-boyfriend, Jub Jub of having previously admitted to raping her, in an Instagram video clip she had made.
On Thursday, Jub Jub returned to court where he was relieved to discover that the state withdrew all criminal charges against him.
“The office of the DPP concluded that there are no reasonable prospects of a successful prosecution. As a result, the sensible thing to do was to withdraw the charges of rape, attempted murder and assault against Maarohanye,” said Phindi Mjonondwana of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).
”I am over the moon,” Molemo said to the media after his charges were withdrawn. He also expressed his gratitude to his family, legal team, and everyone who supported him.
X (Formerly Twitter) users expressed their feelings towards the decision made by the NPA.
The case should never have stood in the first place .. Everyone knew this except the authorities. 🙄🤦♂️
