Congratulations to award-winning rapper K.O, who announced that his hit song Sete has reached Diamond status, the first song in South Africa to ever do so.
The artist exclusively announced the news on ‘My Top 10 at 10 with Tbose’ on Kaya 959. “Sete reached over 100 million streams across all platforms,” he shared, while also stating that he has not yet received his plaque as it is in the process of being made.
K.O, whose real name is Ntokozo Mdluli, received many nominations for Sete, including a few from the Metro FM Music Awards, where many expected him to win. Despite the snub, K.O is proving that awards do no prove success.
The rapper also received praise from industry mate Zakes Bantwini, who popped in at the YFM radio station as he heard K.O was in the building.
Speaking highly of the rapper, Zakes said, “I think there’s one thing that people should actually understand – how tough it is to stay on top in this game. K.O has been doing this for a very long time and we started doing these shows while I was still a manager… and they were still with Teargas back in 2007.”
Zakes also spoke about how Sete – which was released in 2022 – is still bringing in the numbers. “It’s 2023 and you still have a number one record. It’s so funny that it was Osama [Zakes’ song], it did like crazy numbers on the radio and he came with Sete and beat Osama.
“It’s such an amazing thing and K.O has been there man, for a very long time. I think the game owes him a lot and that’s why… I need to show love.”
