South African DJ and amapiano pioneer Kabelo Motha, famously known as Kabza De Small has reportedly cancelled his Soshanguve gig after DJ and radio personality Peter “Mashata” Mabuse was killed in cold blood, when a flood of gun shots were fired at his car.
Kabza was booked to perform in Soshanguve, at the Bom Extravaganza All Black Edition, on the 27th of April (Freedom Day).
The gig cancellation news was shared by local publication ZiMoja who added that the DJ’s management tried to persuade Kabza to honour the event but did not succeed.
It is no surprise that the Imithandazo hit maker would fear for his safety, as Mashata is not the first artist to be shot and killed in cold blood. DJ Somebody who is originally from Soshanguve also died the same way as well as rapper AKA.
Speaking to the above mentioned publication, Kabza’s management who asked to be sent an invoice for a full refund shared:
“After long conversations with our client Kabelo Motha, we have reached a conclusion to cancel the event happening this weekend due to the sudden events that occurred this past weekend, due to the safety of our client. But we would like to consider full refund, as we don’t know when the client (Kabza) will be comfortable to travel to Soshanguve. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this and hope this will be amicable.”
Trying by all mean to assure the hit-maker of his safety, the event organisers are said to have organised highly trained VIP security to guard him, but the DJ could not be persuaded.
Speaking to the publication, the organisers shared:
“We have tried to convince the management team and artist to consider their decision to cancel and went as far as committing to providing an enforced security detail consisting of VIP Protection etc. to ensure his safety concerns are put to ease, however, our attempts did not bear any desirable outcomes. We therefore would like to send sincere apology to all our patrons and Kabza supporters for inconvenience this may have caused.”
