Kaizer Chief’s veteran, Itumeleng Khune’s future at his childhood club remains a possibility.
For years, the former 37-year-old shot-stopper has been the go-to man when it comes to saving Amakhosi from some of the most difficult situations throughout his 25-year tenure at the club. Despite falling out of favour due to his age, and the emergence of new young talented goalkeepers, the club at which he has spent much of his teenage years as well as his adult career is not ready to let go of him yet.
In a recent interview with the sports publication Soccer Laduma, a source highlighted that there is so much that Itumeleng can offer the club aside from his role on the field itself.
The former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper knows all about what it takes to be playing football at the highest level and the club sees this as the perfect opportunity to have him impart his knowledge to the younger crop of players coming through the club’s structures.
The options that are currently on offer are a role in their marketing and commercial department, as well as a role in coaching.
Itumeleng previously declined the role in the marketing department due to his desire to play the game until the age of 40, however, the club remains positive that an agreement can be made.
Speaking to the above-mentioned publication, the source stated:
“The club believes he still has a lot to contribute to the team in terms of teaching the young goalkeepers the ropes as he has been there and done almost everything for the team. So, no matter which department works for him, the club still wants him back.”
