Minister of Sports, Arts, and Culture Gayton McKenzie has once again taken to social media to plea for answers in the case of missing six-year-old Joshlin Smith.

He’s asking her mother, Racquel “Kelly” Smith, to finally tell the truth about what happened to her daughter.

Kelly, along with her boyfriend Jacquin “Boeta” Appollis and Stevano van Rhyn, appeared in court this week, each pleading not guilty to charges of kidnapping and human trafficking in connection with Joshlin’s disappearance from Middelpos informal settlement in Diazville on 19 February 2024.

The trial has seen intense scrutiny over the behaviour of the accused, especially Kelly’s apparent lack of remorse and cooperation.

Many have commented on their defensive attitudes, making the already emotional case even more charged. This has led Gayton McKenzie, who has been vocal in the search for Joshlin, to speak out.

McKenzie wrote. “The difference is not jail food but absence of drugs in her body. I sincerely hope that the goodness that we are all born with shall return also, She must confess and share the truth with the authorities regarding her daughter Joshlin.

“If drugs doesn’t kill you physically it kills who you were, I hope as the drugs leave the truth shall enter her life again. Kelly praat tog net die waarheid. (Kelly, please tell the truth.)”

McKenzie’s emotional plea has resonated with many people, urging Kelly to tell the truth.

As the search for Joshlin continues, the public’s frustration grows. Will Kelly finally break her silence and help bring closure to the case?

The trial continues on Wednesday and will run until 28 March 2025.
