It’s merely been a few months since the sad passing of well-known rapper Kiernan Forbes, but the love for him remains the same.
In a recent episode of the South African talent show – Clash of the Choirs, competing groups were given one day to breathe new life into the music created by departed South African icons.
While South Africans have a wide catalogue of artists to choose from, one of the groups took it upon themselves to appreciate one local hero who left this world too soon – Kiernan “AKA” Forbes.
The rapper died in February this year after being shot outside of the Wish restaurant in Florida Road, Durban.
Following the incident, many speculated that the parents of his late fiancé Anele Tembe had something to do with it, while others felt that Durban in general had not forgiven him for Anele’s passing.
However, one of the participating groups, Team Ntencane made it their duty to clear up the confusion by showing just how much the city loved the Supa Mega, as he was called.
Ntencane closed off the show by honouring the rapper with a medley of hits which left the judges impressed.
Dressed in their black cloaks and colourful South African scarfs, the group started off with one of AKA’s more recent and popular songs, Fela in Versace before blending it into another hit, The Baddest.
Their unique approach to the song was the thing that amazed judges – and in the process, gained them some positive feedback.
“I enjoyed it…” said one of the Judges, Buhlebendalo.
“Ntencane, you rapped so beautifully, it’s like you were performing at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
South African gospel singer Dr Tumi added: “I love how you have a different creative mind in how you arrange your songs.”
Following the performance on Sunday evening, it was not only the judges that were impressed, but Twitter users were also full of praise.
I love how they honored Supa Mega with the SA flag around their necks. He lived that #COTCSA

“We decided to do a medley of his songs so that people can see that KZN loves AKA and appreciates his work,” said team leader Ntencane.
