When it comes to the gees (spirit) shown at annual inter-school sports events, there are very few that can match that of South African schools.
The rivalries among schools usually stretch far beyond what takes place on the sports field and go back in decades, for some nearly centuries, and despite the various events taking place on the field, the stands are often where the real vibes are at.
This is because several schools have become creative and innovative in cheering for their fellow pupils by creating their own versions of a war cry – these days it has become so good that you’ll simply spot it all over social media.
Meanwhile, others are extremely lucky to have some of the world’s biggest musical entertainers sharing their content.

This was exactly the case when it came to Northwood High School from KwaZulu-Natal.
The all-boys school trended all over social media platforms after altering the lyrics from Canadian rapper Drake’s song Nonstop, for their latest war cry.
Not only was this the banger they needed to cheer for their fellow classmates, but it was more than enough to impress Drake himself.
After coming across the video, the God’s Plan rapper reposted a video on his Instagram story which sent the boys into a frenzy.
In an interview with local entertainment publication IOL, the school’s social media manager Gina Klingbeil said that when she posted the video, she never would have imagined Drake would see it.
“I posted a clip on Instagram of the school’s unique rendition of Drake’s Nonstop, the boys began tagging Drake on the video.
“Nobody actually thought that Drake would see the video let, alone share it on his official Instagram story! It was insane!” Gina said.

She further highlighted that it was not even at an official sporting event, instead, they were just practising.
The video has since received more than 1.2 million reactions on TikTok and 400,000 likes on Instagram.
Gina, meanwhile, praised the learners for their creativity and authenticity.
