After the news of multi-award-winning singer Bulelwa Mkutukana, better known as Zahara, being hospitalised surfaced on the internet, the singer’s family have come forward to ask for privacy and prayers.
Local news publication ZiMoja first reported that the 36-year-old Loliwe hitmaker was rushed to hospital following liver complications. Zahara was first admitted to a medical ward, but when her condition worsened, she was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) section of a private Johannesburg hospital.
“Her liver is severely scarred and she may need a liver transplant,” a source close to the family told ZiMoja.
Now, the family has released an official statement concerning Zahara’s health.
In the statement, the family first expressed their gratitude for the outpour of “love, support and compassion” the singer received since articles regarding her health made its rounds online.
They then shared that Zahara had been admitted to a hospital for a week following complaints about physical pains.
“The doctors are working diligently and we await further updates from them. Unfortunately, even though our daughter’s hospitalisation has been of strict confidentiality with our family and close friends, that hasn’t stopped the spread of disingenuous information on the internet. We want to stress that any reliable information regarding Zahara’s health will be communicated via her social media platform or by herself.”
The family concluded by asking for privacy and the continued prayers for the speedy recovery for Zahara.
“We trust that she will be back on the road soon, doing what she loves and what we all love her for, healing people through her powerful gift and love of music.”
