Multi-award-winning sensation Lira is set to perform live for the first time since suffering from a stroke earl y in 2020 where she will take to the centre stage at the Baseline Festival, celebrating Africa Day at the Constitutional Hill on May 25th.
Lira sadly suffered from a stroke while in Germany for a performance. The stroke severely affected the singer’s speech to the point that she needed speech therapy.
While attending RMB Starlight Classics as a guest late last year, the singer was fetched from the crowd by the media personality and event MC Katlego Maboe where opera singers Sunnyboy Vincent Dladla and Mabane Cecilia Rangwanasha were standing.
Mabane then proceeded to ask Lira if they could re-create a singing moment they had on stage in Cape Town.
The singer who was still struggling in her speech explained to the audience that she had not fully recovered before joining the duo on the opera song Ntyilo-Ntyilo made popular by the late Sibongile Khumalo.
Sharing the news of her Bassline Fest performance, Lira wrote:
“This is where we are now!! It’s surreal! The Return of Lira and The BASELINE FEST and CELEBRATING AFRICA DAY AT CONSTITUTION HILL on 25 May 2024. It will be my first performance with a live band after having a stroke in March 2022.
This is a milestone for me, and I’m thrilled. My recovery is nothing short of a miracle. At first, it seemed like an insurmountable task to even be able to speak – but slowly, every day I made progress – and now we are here.
She concluded:
“I’m so grateful to have your unwavering support, encouragement and patience. I CAN’T WAIT to see you !!!!”
