The Playhouse Theatre in KwaZulu-Natal was the epicentre of glamour and recognition as the 2024 Simon ‘Mabhunu’ Sabela Awards celebrated excellence in film and television. The prestigious event, known for honouring the finest talents in the industry, was attended by stars, filmmakers, and fans alike, all eager to see who would take home the awards.
Several individuals were recognised with awards, including Thembinkosi Mthembu, Deli Malinga, Melusi Yeni, Kwa Njomane, Ziya Xulu and Slindile Nodangala. A tribute was paid to the late Mbongeni Ngema, who won Best Supporting Actor in Film, and to other creators who have passed away, including Mpho Sebeng. Additionally, Cynthia Shange, the first black Miss SA and a veteran actress was honored for her longstanding contributions to the industry.
