Let it be re-iterated, no DNA, just RSA – this comes as yet another South African was able to fly our flag high on the international stage.
South African animator Lesego Vorster recently won the Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation Award at this year’s annual Children’s & Family Emmy Award ceremony.
The event which is organised by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS), celebrates the excellence in American children’s and family-oriented television programming and was recently held in Los Angeles.
Lesego received the accolade for his character design work on Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire. The kids’ film was inspired by Lesogo’s personal experiences and delved into social media and influencer culture where the person with the most followers becomes a God.
Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire, is a ten-part series that can be streamed on Disney+. Meanwhile, Lesego directed the ninth episode himself and titled it – You Give Me Heart.
In conversation with the news and entertainment publication Disney+, the creative genius Lesego revealed more about what inspired the message behind the storyline.
“I’ve had my own struggles with social media where I started creating art just to post. The Lesego inside was like, ‘What are you doing? This is not who you are.”
This later inspired him to write a story on his struggle with social media, however, he later just put it away – until it eventually became handy.
“So when I was invited to pitch, I pulled it out and I was like ‘what about this’, and they fell in love with it. Working on the story was another monster by itself because it was unrefined,” he said.
