“Thank you for your bravery” – this was the response of relieved South Africans after renowned chef and media personality Lorna Maseko rescued a woman from an attempted hijacking.
Taking to her X (formerly Twitter) account, Lorna recently shared exactly what took place while on her way to visit a popular breakfast establishment.
Detailing the incident she wrote:
“I can’t believe I almost witnessed a kidnapping in broad daylight on Oxford street near Rosebank.”
According to Lorna the victim was a young girl who found herself in a struggle with two males, one being a black male who was the driver and the other an Indian who sat in the passenger seat.
“The Indian guy kept getting out of the car as she was running and she kept stopping and crossing the road.”
She explains that her initial thoughts were that the two were a couple that were arguing, which resulted in the girl running away from him. However, it later came to her that this might be a possible kidnapping.
“I then stopped my car; they saw me doing this and acted like nothing happened. I also kind of remember what the Indian guy looks like.”
“She got into my car and I drove her home. She could have disappeared and no one would have known what happened to her.”
Lorna shared that she herself was traumatised by the occurrence and adding that what’s even scarier is that things like these happen in broad daylight.
“I’m so glad I stopped once I realised what’s going on.”
Meanwhile, she added that she was unable to get the name of the young lady but trusts that she is alright.
I can’t belive I almost witnessed a kidnapping in broad daylight on Oxford street near Rosebank. This car reg:LL13SWGP has a black & Indian guy in it. I’m so glad once I realised what was going on – I stopped & picked up the lady and dropped her home. I’m so flustered 🥺 pic.twitter.com/v8Xv2Weqp7
