South African rapper and songwriter Tokelo Moyakhe popularly known as Maglera Doe Boy shares the meaning of his song Makazana which he sings with Zackey Boi.
He explained the song before he performed it at a live concert, “Makazana is a song about how time can fly in the township,” he explained.
He also explained the term township and said that is not a Black concept but a concentration camp which is why the township is positioned the way it is, “from the bridges so it can cut us off if there was war, to the trees so they could burn them if we had war,” he said.
“In the chorus I say I spent my life in the township, but I don’t want to die here. Which is we do not have to stay in the hood,” he added.
