Award-winning singer Makhadzi has been announced as this month’s Spotify Equal Africa ambassador.
Makhadzi, whose real name is Ndivhudzannyi Ralivhona, joins Khanyisa Jaceni, Tyla, Sio and Elaine. The programme aims to shine a light on the voices of African female artists, and also seeks to break down barriers and make waves in music while exposing the artists’ catalogue to global listenership, explains TshisaLIVE.
The Ma Yellowbone songstress, who is also set to release her first album under her record label, took to her social media to share the news.
She wrote, “The key is to believe in yourself and wait for your time. If you believe in your talent, then you need to trust and believe in God’s time, we know His time is always the best.”

Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s head of music for Sub-Saharan Africa, said, “African female artists have proven time and time again that they are a force to be reckoned with, often with limited resources and opportunities. Extending resources and generating more impactful opportunities for them is of paramount importance at Spotify.”
The above-mentioned publication also reported that Makhadzi shared that “as an artist, you can do music in any way you like as long as there’s a nice melody, nice vibe, and a good message.” Continuing to speak about her music, Makhadzi added, “I make nice melodies for people to dance to and I love that I sing in my own language.”
