South African musician Makhadzi has allegedly parted ways with Open Mic Productions.
According to News 24, the musician left the record label after three years.
“I signed a three-year contract with Open Mic in March 2020. I was waiting for them to maybe talk to me about how we’ll work together, but no one came to me. That’s why I decided to send a final email to say I was aware that the contract had ended,” reads the singer’s statement seen by the publication.
However, despite this development, Open Mic Productions has yet to issue a statement on whether Makhadzi is still signed under them.
The label has always shown an act of support for Ghanama hitmaker, especially when she gets called out over issues.
In 2022, the Sunday World reported that the record label and Makhadzi were being sued over an endorsement deal.
Open Mic Productions denied the claims. The singer’s bookings of late have been faced with drama, from snubbing events to unruly behaviour, as is the case in Zimbabwe.
She was also recently dragged by an event promoter for not showing up to an event, where Mic Productions instantly slammed the claim, saying their artist was not booked.
“It’s a lie, they’ve never booked Makhadzi … ask them to send you an invoice from us or POP (proof of payment) they made to Open Mic or Makhadzi — there is no such a thin.”
