After an impressive performance and well-earned spot in the tournament, it is only fitting that Masandawana be given the honour of being the first club to welcome the FIFA Club World Cup trophy on African shores.
As the highly anticipated FIFA Club World Cup continues to draw closer, and with a new look, the coveted trophy will be making its way around the African continent for all to marvel at. As one of the only few African teams set to participate against 31 other teams from each of the six FIFA confederations, the Brazilians were the first to unveil the fine piece of silverware.
Gathering at their training base in Chloorkop, the Masandawana team along with their technical staff honoured the historic unveiling of the trophy, where the Mamelodi Sundowns chairperson Thlophe Motsepe revealed that the trophy would be touring various communities and schools, granting fans an opportunity to witness it with their own eyes.
βSo, for the next few days, whilst this trophy is in South Africa, and with the help of some of our special players, weβre going to take this trophy to the schools in the townships,” the chairman says.
