Following the successful run of his eagerly anticipated biopic called, Nkalakatha: The Life of Mandoza, devoted fans of the late musician can expect some more insights into his life story with the introduction to a musical dedicated to the rapper.
This was revealed by the news and entertainment publication TshisaLive.
According to the above-mentioned source, September will see the welcoming of The Road to Nkalakatha, where Mandoza’s life will be retold like never before.
The musical is a build up to the 25th anniversary of his hit song Nkalatha, which has been an unofficial anthem at some of our country’s biggest events including last year’s Rugby World Cup.
Confirming the news to TshisaLive was Busi Kunene, who spoke on behalf of Mandoza’s wife. She revealed that she was approached by Mpho Tshabalala to project manage the musical.
“The musical will tell Mandoza’s story and journey through theatre with a narrator and playing out scenes from his life on stage. It will pay homage to his most popular songs,” she explained.
She further stated that while the first of these shows will be performed at the Soweto Theatre on 18th September, it will later move to various other provinces in the build-up to the song’s 25th anniversary next year.
In a statement of their own, the Soweto Theatre wrote: “Mandoza’s legacy lives on through this iconic anthem, embodying the spirit of unity and national pride.”
To top it off they are also planning a 25 years or Nkakalatha Tribute Concert which will be at Orlando Stadium, the last place he performed before his passing.
