Multi-award-winning Maskandi artist Thokozani Langa has recently captured the attention of social media with a candid video addressing his financial situation and principles.

According to TshisaLive, Thokozani is heard in the video, which quickly went viral, expressing his belief in not relying on hand-me-downs or external support, highlighting his commitment to financial independence despite not receiving a regular salary.

“Our lives are not the same. Some people have got their inheritance and we don’t have. We need to know what our children will eat before they go to sleep. No one stands for me and I’m not expecting anything from anyone, I live by the grace of God.”

Thokozani spoke to TshisaLive, expressing dismay over the lack of media platform support for maskandi artists like himself. He was aware of the video doing rounds on social media.

He highlighted challenges in the music industry, noting neglect of the genre and inadequate attention from mainstream radio.

“You know how dirty our industry is. I had made a conclusion with that video that sometimes you will live between a rock and a hard place, but with God things are possible,” he said.

“I’ve been in the music industry for many years, but I’ve never felt our genre neglected like this. Most of us aren’t getting the necessary attention like other genres. Mainstream radio is also not doing us justice, that’s why some of us find ourselves in certain predicaments that force us to look up to God.”

Despite these hurdles, Thokozani remains hopeful and has faith in God and his ancestors to overcome difficulties.
