Cape Town-born twins Ria and Zia Ma-awu are fast growing into content creators, stealing many people’s hearts with their unfiltered content in the process.
The 4-year-olds from Cape Town are Nandi Ma-awu’s daughters. Nandi details that during their early stages, the twins were very clingy and needed a lot of attention. It was through the help of her mother Nondumiso Ma-awu that she did not slip into postnatal depression as things got overwhelming for the now 31-year-old.
Speaking to BONA about the twins’ personalities, Nandi shares that Zia is more of the fussy one and loves attention. As a clingy person, Zia would even wait for her mother before she goes to bed if Nandi is not home yet.
Ria on the other hand is more flexible and does not mind going to bed before her mother gets back.
Asking Nandi what the names Zia and Ria mean, the twin mom shared that the names were given to the girls by their grandmother Nondumiso. She also told us that Ria’s second name is Blessing, and Zia’s is Joy.
When BONA asked Nandi how Ria and Zia came about to be content creators, she told us that she had been getting many requests to open a social media page for the twins from her friends and people who love them.
Since they were still young, Nandi shared that she was sceptical about doing so. Two years ago she then decided to test the waters creating their twin’s own social media page which she manages. To her surprise, the page started attracting many internet users from different parts of mzansi.
At just the tender age of four, Ria and Zia are recognised by many when going to public places. Just like many content creators, the twins have worked with brands such as Foschini Kids, First Choice Dairy, Crazy Store, Caivil Kids haircare, Game, Wimpy, Ackermans and many more.
Nandi, who is a proud supporter of local brands shares that she would love to have the twins partner with a clothing brand or designer that manufactures clothes locally.
Who knows, Nandi’s dream might come through as media personality Somizi Mhlongo re-shared a picture of the twins wearing a onesie they bought from the media personality’s clothing brand Sompire.
Sharing a video of Ria and Zia in their Sompire regalia, the former Idols SA judge captioned his post:
“Zia & Ria @the_maawu_twins are brave enough to be themselves in Sompire Kids’s, Uncle She Onesie, available at a 50% off discount right now at www.sompirekids.com.”

In the video shared on the Ma-awu twins’ Instagram page, Somizi also commented under their post, adding:
“They deserve a Woooo Sheeeem.”
While we may not be sure of whether the twins will follow the path in the limelight as they grow older, they are natural in front of the camera and seem to make those who come across their content fall in love with them.
Who knows, maybe there might be a reality show in future for the little besties who seem to enjoy each other’s company.
