Apart from dominating over their opponents on the field, Springbok players Makazole Mampimpi and Lukhanyo Am are proud friends of the Mercedes-Benz SA brand. The two athletes were honoured by the brand with custom C 63 SE models built in the East London plant, which is the same plant that built Nelson Mandela’s custom S Class in 1990.
The handover comes just a year after the Springboks players were named as brand partners, where they joined their captain, Siya Kolisi. Although they were initially assigned different roles, with Lukhanyo working closely with the financial services and Makazole tasked with ambassador duties for the cars division, both athletes have been thriving in their roles.
On a day filled with festivities and vibrant gwijo singing from students from the Sonwa Sakuba Institute of Performing Arts and Gymkhana experience where employees of MBSA were treated to some joy rides in the custom models, driven by the Mercedes-Benz experience team, Mercedes-Benz SA honoured.
The partnership between Mercedes-Benz South African and the Springbok players has proven to be a mutually beneficial one as the players get to experience a different side of the business and get a better understanding while being exposed to luxurious cars that they might not have had the chance to ever drive otherwise, while the brand gets to grow through endorsements with the players.
Taking to his Instagram, although remaining mysterious, Makazole engraved the iconic day with a simple post with the caption “A day to treasure”
