“Only God knows” – this was Asanda Mvana’s response to fans who have wondered when she will make her return to music following her long absence from the entertainment scene.
The singer-songwriter best known by her stage name Msaki has been on a hiatus for more than a year. This comes after she reportedly became the subject of public scrutiny and online bullying after Rami Chuene, daughter of 5FM presenter Smash Afrika’s wife Kefiloe accused her of having an affair with her husband.
Despite attempting to set the record straight, TshisaLive reports that the backlash received caused her to take a break as the bullying took its toll on her.
At the time she took to X (formerly Twitter) and wrote:
“I thought this message would be on my birthday, the 31st of December. But it’s just pouring out of me today. Be kind to the trolls, they are hurting deep. The Notas, the Chris nton nton’s, the Musa’s etc.”
In a separate post, she also wrote: “It shouldn’t make me a victim to a violation of privacy of a complete twisting of the truth. But I get it; we are all victims here.”
With these being her last tweets towards the end of 2022, she has since recently provided some of her most loyal fans an update on what’s been happening in her life. In addition, she reassured fans that she has not yet retired and is still in the process of making music.
Taking to Instagram, she wrote:
“I know most of you understand and know it’s a good thing. But to clarify for the ones in the back. Haitius: yes. Retired: no. Performing: no. Releasing music: Yes, whispers, and it’s all music I made before my hiatus.”
She highlighted that the last show with a DJ and band was in 2023 and that she is always busy writing new songs.
As for her next show she said, “Only God knows bethuna.”
Meanwhile, she added that she is currently still in a phase of recovering and healing.
