MultiChoice recently commented on the abuse allegations made by former Umkhokha: The Curse actress Angel Zuma in the production when she announced her exit.
Angel who left Umkhokha: The Curse for greener pastures, recently narrated the events of how she was mistreated and threatened on set by the industry greats after she handed in her resignation letter, because she bagged a role on the Lion King as Rafiki which needed her to relocate to Toronto in Canada for the duration of her role.
Upon seeing the story shared on YouTube, MultiChoice acknowledged the concerns raised regarding the production of Umkhokha: The Curse.
The statement shared to the news publication, The Citizen, read: “We take the well-being of our productions’ cast and crew with the utmost seriousness, and we are committed to fostering a safe and supportive working environment. To this end, MultiChoice actively encourages all cast and crew members to report any incidents or concerns as soon as they arise, facilitating prompt and appropriate intervention.
“However, MultiChoice remains dedicated to ensuring that all production personnel feel empowered to address any issues that may affect their well-being.”
Angel who portrayed the character of Nomkhosi Mthembu in the fan-favourite telenovela, took to her YouTube page to narrate her side of the story, without mentioning the names of those who mistreated her.
Retelling her story, she said: “I never thought in my life these people would do such things to me because I said I’m leaving, because I resigned. Guys it was horrible. I had the worst experience leaving. Like can we normalise that when a person resigned; there’s nothing obviously you can do to convince them to stay and know they are really leaving.
“Send them well, man. Let them go in peace. You don’t need to fight them; you don’t need to pull strings and connections to try and stop this person from thriving because they will thrive outside. I’ve never cried so much in my life, I’ve never been so hurt and disappointed feeling betrayed,” she said.
