X (formerly known as Twitter) was abuzz with pictures and videos of the Miss Universe Nigeria camp that officially opened at the Festival Hotel in Festac, Lagos over the weekend.
Twenty-four contestants got to work, taking to the catwalk and introducing themselves to the mainly male judging panel.
An official statement from the Miss Universe Nigeria Organisation said the “atmosphere was buzzing with excitement and anticipation as the delegates checked in and completed their registration process”.
The weekend consisted of the official pageant shoot, marking their journey towards the coveted crown.
But Mzansi users on X (formerly Twitter) weren’t impressed with the setup and called for Chidimma Adetshina to return home. The law student was a Top 12 finalist in the Miss SA competition until her heritage was questioned and she was forced to quit the beauty pageant.
X user @MfundoTweets mentioned that a skin-bleaching company was one of the main sponsors of the pageant: “Chidimma is marketing skin bleaching lotions in Nigeria. The main sponsor for Miss Universe Nigeria is a skin bleaching company. So much for us being the “self-hating” ones.”

Another said that Adetshina probably regrets entering the competition and said: “So this is the ‘prestigious’ Miss Universe Nigeria?
“The Giants Of Africa are suffering…even Chidimma looks like she regrets leaving South Africa for this nonsense.”

@dragzito defended Adetshina’s entry into the competition: “This isn’t the Miss Universe Nigeria main event, you’ll leave Chidimma alone now it’s embarrassing..”
