Rapper Nadia Nakai recently opened up about her relationship with her dad whom she has reunited with after 33 years.
During her interview with Zingah on Choppin It With Buddha T’s podcast, Nadia told the podcaster that her dad reached out to her when he saw the news about the late rapper AKA’s death.
“I actually met him recently, after 33 years.” “It was actually a good meeting, it was wholesome, it was nice. I didn’t have anger because I feel like I lived a good life with my mom. My mom did that, she raised me well. I didn’t feel like I was losing anything, I think I just wanted to meet him because a lot was going on in my life. I just felt like I needed to find myself. I even went to Zimbabwe,” said Nadia who told the podcaster.
The Young Famous and African star also touched on her BET nomination while speaking to Zingah.
Bragga was nominated in the Best International Flow category representing Zimbabwe to which she later changed to South Africa.
Nadia claimed that she requested the BET Awards organisers to alter the nation she represents. Not that she denies having Zimbabwean ancestry, but she claimed that it wouldn’t be fair to Zimbabwean musicians who have long served as ambassadors for hip-hop.
“Me & Blxckie got nominated for BET and it said Zimbabwe, but then I got it corrected, they put South AH,” she said. “They had to because you know why though? There’s no way I could go and represent Zimbabwe for BET when there are amazing female artists that are based in Zimbabwe, that know the culture, that rap in Shona, that live that life.”
“They deserve to be the first one that gets nominated representing Zimbabwe because they are actually doing the damn thing in Zimbabwe. I can’t take that credit and say I’m Zimbabwean but I actually don’t move there like that, you know that’s not where I’m at,” she added.
