Durban-born rising star Naledi Aphiwe Myongwane earns herself three nominations at the Basadi in Music Awards which will take place at the Johannesburg Theatre on the 10 August.
The Grade 12 learner from Khethokuhle Secondary School first rose to fame when American singer and dancer Chris Brown sampled her voice for his song Shooter on the album 1:1. She became an internet sensation after Chris not only credited her on the song but also gave her $3000 (R5500.00).
Earlier this year Naledi spoke to TshisaLive about her recent success after the famous collaboration saying, “I was popular before but since the Shooter song I gained more popularity and more people are asking for pictures and my cellphone number,” adding, “I’d like to start the process of applying to pursue music and drama at a university or private intuition and put a tombstone on my mother’s grave and hopefully get to meet Chris Brown.”
Taking to her Instagram, Naledi posted three nominations she got which were for categories SofnFree Pop Artist of the Year, Song of The Year for her song Ngiyabonga and Collaboration of the Year featuring Nomfondo Moh and Fezeka Dlamini.
She also captioned, “Hey guys your girl is nominated on Basadi in Music Awards. Haaa 3X Nominees, please letβs vote ngiyabonga (thank you).”
