Prepare for a roller-coaster ride as Showmax introduces us to the wives, girlfriends and former lovers of some of our national sporting figures in the new reality series, Sports Wives.
According to Showmax, this production is produced by Ndlovukazi Concepts and directed by the reality TV star who appeared on seasons 2 and 3 of The Real Housewives of Durban, Thumeka Hlotshana.
Ndlovikazi Concepts have produced shows such as Ngicishe Ngafa and Abandoned for Mzansi Magic channel 161 prior to venturing to this reality show.
While many wondered why the show had to include exes in the production, Sports Wives executive producer and creator, Nonhlanhla Dhlamini, explained and touched on their inclusivity aspect of the show.
She explained, “We were deliberate in also including wives, partners and exes of professional athletes from the LGBTQIA+ community, athletes who are oftentimes neglected by the general media regardless of their outstanding performance at national and international level.”
Nonhlanhla further shares that the show will be relatable in many aspects like focusing on lack of acceptance, sexuality, family, friendships and having to navigate life after experiencing a divorce. One of the unique elements of the show is its focus to shed light to gender roles and the lack of media representation as it includes the queer community.
The cast of the show includes:
- Dipuo Maloi
- Sisanda Cetyiwe
- Clarrisa Manaças
- Bomzi September
- Christa Kgamphe-Jane
- Tsholo Makgalemele-Mbane
The show is set to premiere on the 5th of December.
