It is often said that you can take a person out of South Africa, but you can never take South Africa out of the person and rugby couple Handre and Marise Pollard’s most recent video clip has proven this statement to be one hundred per cent true.
The couple are currently enjoying a cold festive season in England where the double World Cup-winning fly-half Handre plays for the local team Leicester Tigers. The couple have been living in England since 2022 after Handre’s brief stint at the French club Montpellier which he joined following the Springbok’s 2019 Rugby World Cup success.
It was here where they welcomed the birth of their firstborn son, Hunter, who continues to show signs of development each time his parents showcase his progress to the world.
Taking to Instagram, Marise shared a video snippet of her adorable toddler’s crawling movements as she cheers on in the background. While it may be perfectly normal for a baby of his age to start crawling after a few months, it was his motivation to move that had many in awe.
On the opposite end of the carpet, Marise had presented baby Hunter with a piece of an old South African favourite snack – droëwors.
Motivated by his reward the clip shows Hunter excitingly strengthening his little legs as he begins moving forward until he eventually reaches the piece of dried meat.
Captioning her post, she wrote: “Droëwors made him do it. Tell me you’re South African without telling me.”
In awe of his South African instincts, one user commented, “Love this! He knows good stuff when he sees it.”

Another wrote: “Definitely mom and dad’s son! South African genes come out strongly.”
The couple welcomed their baby in April last year after first announcing the news of their pregnancy along with several other Springboks shortly after winning the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France. To date, he appears to be the centre of happiness in their family of three.
