‘Nonhle Thema energy’ – netizens on Elsa Majimbo’s ‘I’m rich and famous’ comment

Media personality Nonhle Thema recently became a trending topic after social media users found content creator Elsa Majimbo’s comment about being “rich and famous” reminded them of the former TV presenter.

Elsa blew up on TikTok during the COVID-19 pandemic for her exuded confidence, infectious laugh and quick and witty comments about the finer things in life, while not forgetting to wear her sunglasses and munching on chips. Her unique videos lent a helping hand in her claim to fame and she has since gone on to pursue a career in fashion.

The content creator recently took to X (formerly Twitter) to share the following post, using a tone that has been spotted in many of her videos:

“Yes, I’m rich and famous with fans and a house in Beverly Hills. And let me tell you what you’ll do about it… absolutely f*cking nothing. Stay mad and watch my every move.”

When told by a fan that she should not validate herself, Elsa replied that she made the comment “purely to ruin their [other people’s] day,” adding, “I love reminding them I’m what they’ll never be.”

Elsa’s post had many social media users thinking of Nonhle, who, during the 2000s, was known to flaunt her riches. Nonhle told TV presenter Thembekile Mrototo during an interview on Showmax’s Unfollowed, “I was so full of myself, I was so self-absorbed at that time. I was such a horrible person. I became a monster right in front of myself, in front of the world.”

Nonhle added that she had also lost a lot of endorsements and money due to what seemed to many as arrogance, something a few social media users feel Elsa is also expressing.
