When Anele Zondo and Nadia Nakai dropped the banger Thick Slim in 2022, fans were itching for a music video from the two rap stars. Unfortunately, it never materialised.
While appearing on SlikourOnLife’s What A Life podcast, Anele finally revealed why we never saw the hot collab get a music video feature.
The two had already created the video which was due for release. But tragedy struck when Nadia’s boyfriend, fellow rapper AKA, was gunned down in Durban.
“We shot the Thick Slim video and it never got out,” explained Anele.
His untimely death put their plans on ice, especially since Anele said there was a scene with both women holding guns. It would be insensitive to release the music video, considering the circumstances under which AKA died.
When it was time to promote the music video, the Bragga rapper distanced herself from it. “She (Nadia Nakai) was like no babe you can drop it but I can’t promote it,” added Anele.
“Then I had to think about this thing. I was like yoh, I’m gonna drop it and then she’s not gonna feel okay about it and then I’m also not gonna feel okay.”
During the interview, Anele spoke about her latest EP VUKA, her pregnancy and navigating the rap game.
The actress, also known as Ney The Bae, confirmed the pregnancy rumours on social media last week. “I knew my whole life would change, I did not know what to do.
“As soon as I heard my bae’bies’s heartbeat, I knew it was meant to be, this is what I am meant to do,” she wrote.
