Outspoken musician and beadwork artist Ntsiki Mazwai is no stranger to controversy. The poet, who is younger sister to award winning music icon Thandiswa Mazwai is known for speaking her mind on political, economic and social issues and addressing things that many choose to overlook.
In true Ntsiki style, the singer recently expressed her disappointment in the “black TV content” being aired after watching the Young, Famous and African.
She posted a video captioned, “Which is my industry kahle kahle …because black TV is not on my level.”
In the video Ntsiki further says:
” … Guys, so, I was watching that Rich, African, Famous thing nhe, and also other programmes. I just want to find out which programmes are for intellectuals and intelligent black people, or are we only allowed to be on TV when we act stupid and we act the fool? Ndiyazibuzela nje (Im just asking), because obviously I don’t belong in the TV industry if this is the level of black TV …”

Followers shared their feeling on what Ntsiki had posted with some commending her for her honesty and bravery:
“I love your honesty honey.. Very sharp and straight to the point. I love you for that. However, those programmes are only staged for just making money.. Nothing else. You and me are not their target market. Let’s just stick to the news or parliament channels.”
Ntsiki responded by saying, “@dzeeneyo that’s so unfair….we also deserve some light content which is smart.”
Others shared, “The current media is meant to keep the masses away from emancipating themselves from mental slavery, SAns are being monitored via Social Media, the numbers don’t lie, there’s soapies from as early as 6pm until around 9pm no reading, just starring at TV.”

“TV has become superficial for ordinary black people. Nothing is intellectually stimulating at all. When i am not studying i watch podcasts because TV programs ngudoti nje (it’s just rubbish) ?.”
