Beadwork artist, poet and media personality Ntsiki Mazwai recently took to social media platform X, an app that was previously known as Twitter to speak about the reasons why she chose not to have a child.
The uWrongo hitmaker who is a younger sister to Bongo Maffin lead singer Thandiswa Mazwai lost her mother in the early 90s when she was still young.
Associating her decision not to have a child with her mother’s earthly departure, Ntsiki shared:
“Yazi (you know) one of the reasons I don’t have a child is because I don’t have a mother…..you need a mom to help raise your children.”
She went further to add, “I was always VERY aware of this…..so I avoided that struggle. ”
Stating what many single mothers have experienced, she added, “First men will abandon you then no mom??? Iyhu! I wouldn’t have coped.”

My fear was dying and leaving my child behind, my Mom did when I was 18. So, discovering that I was pregnant was catastrophic.

User @SthembiD was also among those who understood Ntsiki, commenting:
Losing a mother really removes a part of you in a way 💔…Can only imagine how damage it causes when you have to grow up without her 💔…I’m so sorry for your loss ❤️.

One user expressed the challenges of parenting alone, noting:
When I had my son I understood the phrase “It takes a village to raise a child”. If you don’t have your “village” you will struggle so much. Something as simple as going to the salon becomes challenging to do because you have no one to look after the baby.
