The battle between singer Ndivhudzannyi Ralivhona also known as Makhadzi and her former record label Open Mic Production is not about to end anytime soon.
Through their lawyers, the record label sent the Ghanama hitmaker’s legal team a notice for their client to immediately cease and desist from any statements that paint the label in a bad manner. This comes after Makhadzi’s comments about leaving the label and them owing her money.
Makhadzi also spoke with Metro FM Music awards backstage with host, Somizi Mhlongo after winning Best Female Artist, showing appreciation to Open Mic, she also mentioned that all that she wanted was her money.
Open Mic however refutes these claims stating in their letter to Makhadzi’s legal team “Your client alleges that she is or was being treated like a ‘slave’ and was not paid a single cent.”
“We annex hereto a schedule of some of the payments advanced by our client to yours, totalling an amount of R7, 956,o84,86 as well as a further payment of R300 000 made by our client to “TW Property” under the reference “Makhadzi House Deposit” as annexures A & B respectively.”
The record label stipulated that, Makhadzi had breached clause 11 of the Artist Management Agreement entered between them and her “Confidentiality Clause” as she went and publicly discussed her contract without consulting with them.
They added, “Accordingly, we are instructed to demand, as we hereby do, that your client immediately ceases and desists from unlawful conduct, which is ongoing and severely prejudicial to our client and for which the damage cannot be accurately quantified.”
The statement further reads, “should your client fail, refuse and/or neglect to accede to our client’s demands by 12h00 on Friday, 12 May 2023, we hold instructions to institute legal proceedings for seeking appropriate relief.”
Open Mic production also attached statements of payment to what is said to be the singers bank account dating back as far as 2021.
