Bridges for Music and ULTRA South Africa delivered an unforgettable evening for the annual Bridges for Music Gala Dinner in collaboration with Ultra South Africa.
The event was held at one of Cape Town’s iconic venues, the LOOKOUT at the V&A Waterfront. Hosted by Maps Maponyane, the evening was a true reflection on how the continued support for the foundation has positively transformed over 200 under-served students every year.
Bridges for Music – a non-profit organisation – focuses on empowering young talent from less fortunate communities to become creative change-makers. The organisation provides its students with 21st-century tools and equips them with the psychosocial and entrepreneurial skills to thrive in the creative industries.
Sharing with BONA that the gala was in aid of raising funds for the Langa-based academy, Maps stated, “The township of Langa is a place that does not have a lot of access for children in their community. They now have a place where they can get their creative juices flowing and get access to different opportunities.”
Also in attendance were Grammy award-winning hitmaker Skrillex and local stars, including Msaki, Shimza, Sir Vincent, and DJ Loyd. Together, they formed a constellation of the music industry, Cape Town City, influencers, and the media, united in their commitment to nurturing the next generation of artists.
Shimza, who is also big on giving back to the community, shared with BONA that the work Bridges for Music has done is something that he highly resonates with. “This is an opportunity we need more of in our communities.”
Esteemed guests were also able to participate in an auction where hundreds of thousands of rands were donated, adding to the now over R1 million dedicated to the under-served communities.
Founder and CEO of Bridges for Music Valentino Barriosseta said, “Bridges for Music and ULTRA South Africa has achieved an astounding milestone by raising R1,020,760. This remarkable sum directly benefits the Bridges Academy in Langa, a beacon of opportunity for young talent from under-resourced communities.”
