The renowned musician Eric Kulani Giyani Nkovani, popularly known as Papa Penny has been the subject of several headlines in recent times.
This comes after the former member of the African National Congress (ANC) decided to make a swift decision of swapping allegiance by joining the newly formed Umkhonto Wesizwe (MK) party which was led by the former president of South Africa Jacob Zuma.
With Penny being a key member, having in leadership as a ward councillor his decision to withdraw himself from the party has received lots of criticism.
While he has previously refused to publicly speak about his decision unless given permission by his leadership in the new party, the Limpopo-born musician has recently finally set the record straight regarding his move.
In an interview with TshisaLive he revealed that allegedly the ANC offered him R15m not to join the newly formed party.
He went as far as to accuse the party he was loyal to for several years of using propaganda to confuse the masses.
“They are the ones who decided to put a price tag over my head and to make it seem as if MK Party gave me more. I know nothing about that R15m. Why would they give me that money while they are failing to give people service delivery? It doesn’t make sense to me.”
He explained that if the ANC would have been an honest party that does things right by their people. The upcoming elections were guaranteed to be theirs.
“But no, they want to go around fooling the masses again in believing their lies of service delivery, creating jobs, building proper roads and a world class health sector. But it’s not the case.”
The national elections will be held on 29th May.
