Podcaster Penuel “The Black Pen” Mlotshwa is never shy to touch on the subject of parenting as he is known for being a present dad.
The father of six recently shared a video clip where he gave men advice on how they can make sure their kids know about their financial contribution.
Penuel suggested for father’s not to just send an EFT but for them to physically go buy things with their kids and to pay the school fees directly to the school than give the money to the mother.
He commented:
“I advise especially men, but women as well do not send money blindly. If you can get involve with the school, build relationships with them, etc, and pay directly to the school so that they know.”
He continued adding:
“If you can, if your child is old enough give your child physical money or tell the child, I’ve paid your fees. Let the child know, my dad pays because you might find that you are paying but the child is saying, but my mom pays”.
Penuel also added:
“Buy your child clothing, go with them to the shops, buy groceries. If you’re not going with them, have it delivered maybe with a note, love your dad”.
Capturing his video post on X, previously known as Twitter the podcaster captioned his post:
“Some advice to fathers who do not live with their kids but provide financially. It is important to not just send EFTs & e-wallets, but to go shopping with your kids & tell them that you pay for things. Penuel The Black Pen.”

💯% correct.
My daughter who stays with her granny was quite shocked when her granny recently told her that I’m the one paying for all her school needs from fees, uniform, transport, food and aftercare and homecare. She always thought it was her mother providing everything.— UncleDASH🇿🇦 (@malomeDASH) December 10, 2023
One user shared how his daughter thought the mother was paying for things while he was financially providing for everything.

Others expressed that money wasn’t the only thing needed to raise a child
Material things don’t equate to love. Kids need your presence more than what you buy them so that they can be emotionally connected to you.

Parenting is time spent together, not shopping. Real parenting is raising a child everyday of their impressionable ages. The real parent is the one who gets to imprint his/her principles and values into the child mind while it is still a clean slate. Not shopping.
