Poet Mzwakhe Mbuli alleges Crown Gospel Awards was his idea

Singer and poet Mzawakhe Mbuli received backlash from online users after claiming that the Crown Gospel Awards concept was his idea.

Crown Gospel Awards was founded by the late Ukhozi FM presenter, Zanele Mbokazi who recently passed away after being diagnosed with lung cancer came under scrutiny when Mzawakhe claimed he founded the idea.

According to entertainment publication, ZiMoja, after it was announced that Zanele had passed on, Mzawakhe took to his WhatsApp where he alleged that he was the co-founder of the awards, adding that, advocate and politician Dali Mpofu could attest to this allegation.

Speaking to news publication, SundayWorld, Mzawakhe stated that, when the idea of the award ceremony was being brought to light, the renowned advocate was the SABC Group CEO and also a witness to his claims.

He says, “I never fought with Zanele about this because I was happy with how the awards turned out. All I wanted was to see gospel musicians respected and honoured because their genre was big; it still is.”

Despite Mzawakhe’s shocking claims about the award ceremony, many internet users felt that his timing was inappropriate given Zanele’s recent passing.

Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter) users stated that his timing was off and that he had claimed to own a few ideas before.

Another user found his claims embarrassing as he did not say anything when Zanele was alive.
