President Cyril Ramaphosa is the latest of many dignitaries who has publicly expressed his feelings regarding the passing of the late multi-award-winning singer Zahara.
The singer (who was born Bulelwa Mkutukana) passed away at a private Johannesburg hospital on Monday evening as a result of liver complications. Her partner, Mpho Xaba, was at her bedside.
While speaking to the media, President Ramaphosa stated Zahara’s passing was unfortunate and that the nation has been robbed of a great talent. He continued, “She was talented, vibrant and a wonderful composer. To be robbed of a great talent at a young age is a real blow to our country. She is one of the great products that our country has produced in the arts. I’m really saddened by her passing.”

Zahara’s family also released a statement announcing the singer’s passing. A portion of the statement read:
“She was a pure light, and an even purer heart, in this world. A beacon of hope, a gift, and a blessing to us and countless people around the world … A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. May we remember Zahara not with sorrow, but with stories of healing, joy, kindness, and inspiration she brought to us through her life and her music.”
