Kwaito legend Mkhonzeni Langa popularly known as Professor is hoping to reach his peak again with his newly released song Watsamaya after hitting rock bottom in the industry.
The Jezebel hitmaker released a song that he said is about the influence of financial status in a relationship alongside Mafikizolo‘s Nhlanhla Mafu.
Speaking to Daily Sun, the Kwaito star said it’s painful that he is not celebrated at home.
“I’m based in Joburg for work, but the fact that I’m from Durban remains. I feel like I’m not celebrated there, but I hope things will change. I have a new song out, and it addresses the issue of money in relationships. The song received a warm welcome from the music fans, which encouraged me to work on the album,” he said.
The award-winning artist is known for hits like Ijimaphi le weight and Imoto which won him awards when his music career was blossoming. However, Professor feels side-lined by fewer bookings at entertainment events.
Sources close to him revealed to the above publication that the situation of his music career frustrates him.
“Professor makes good music, and even on stage, he makes people stand on their feet. It’s just that he is unlucky. There’s no doubt that people love his music. He’s a great artist. So, that’s why he is frustrated when the bookings don’t come through,” said the source.
Another one said Professor has no issue with anyone in the entertainment industry.
“He is a very humble guy and has not quarrelled with anyone as far as we know. Even when he was still making hits, he did not let the fame get the better of him. It’s frustrating that he doesn’t get bookings. KZN is known as very supportive, but it’s unfortunate that now it seems the province has forgotten about him,” the source revealed.
