Rihanna is set to voice Smurfette in Paramount and Nickelodeon’s upcoming untitled Smurfs movie.
She called her character a “blue badass,” per The Hollywood Reporter.
Puss in Boots director Chris Miller will direct the film.
The Bajan beauty made the announcement while on stage at CinemaCon in Las Vegas at Caesar’s Palace Hotel and Casino. The Fenty founder wore a long, loose-fitted dress that mirrored washed-out denim, hiding her baby bump.
She joked to the audience, “I tried to get the Papa Smurf role but it didn’t work out.”

As Rihanna is now expecting her second child with rapper A$AP Rocky, she said, “I get to show up [to the studio] in my PJs in my third trimester,” adding, “I hope this gives me cool points with my kids one day,” reports The Hollywood Reporter.
According to Variety, it was also revealed that the Lift Me Up songstress will not only star in the film but write and record original music and produce the upcoming project.
Ramsey Naito, president of Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation said that the film explores themes of identity, as well as asks the central question: “What is a Smurf?”
This is not Rihanna’s first time voicing an animated character. Back in 2015, the business mogul voiced the character Gratuity ‘Tip’ Tucci, alongside singer Jennifer Lopez and actors Jim Parsons and Steve Martin in the movie Home.
The Smurfs movie will premiere on 14 February 2025.
