With South Africa’s hopes of having yet another Miss Universe now temporarily being shattered, there appears to be light at the end of the tunnel for devoted pageantry fans.
This comes as KwaZulu-Natal-born model Ntando Lurwengu excitingly sets his sights on bringing his A-game to the Mr Universe pageant. The event is set to take place in Los Angeles, California from the 15th to the 22nd of December, where representatives from countries from various parts of the world will all compete for the coveted prize.
In a recent interview with the news and entertainment publication Sunday World, Ntando, who previously reigned as Mr South Africa 2021 spoke about his journey in pageantry and modelling. He explained that he initially got involved in modelling during his matric year.
At the time he partook and won his high school pageant. Later, he was approached by an agency which he continued working for three years until he completed his studies in 2019.
After 2021 offered him the opportunity to participate in Mr South Africa, the Bcom graduate says that he saw this as the perfect platform to advocate for an issue close to his heart, which is seeing others have an equal and quality education system.

Earlier this year he shared more about this with TshisaLive: “I’m dedicated to creating access to quality education for all, believing that every child, regardless of their background, deserves the chance to succeed and thrive.”
With the Mr Universe competition within reach, he plans to grab the opportunity with both hands and give it his best.
“It is a responsibility I do not take lightly. And I am looking forward to the task at hand, as well as making South Africa proud,” he tells Sunday World.
