Organisers of the South African Music Awards (SAMAs) has recently announced that they will be honouring four individuals with a Lifetime Achievement award for their impact on South African music at this years award ceremony.
Among the four to receive the honour is the late Kwaito legend Mduduzi Tshabalala otherwise known as Mandoza.
In their announcement via social media, the organisers of the event wrote:
“Honouring Mandoza, the late kwaito icon whose music transcended boundaries and its impact is everlasting. He brought kwaito to life and continues to inspire generations.
“We pay tribute to a legend of South African music in celebrating his lifetime achievement at #SAMA29. 🙌🇿🇦 #MusicHasItAll”

The multi-award-winning artist rose to fame when he formed a Kwaito group with childhood friends called Chiskop.
Despite the success they achieved together, Mandoza later ventured out into becoming a solo artist with the release of Nkalakatha.
While the legendary icon sadly passed away in 2016 due to a battle with cancer his music continues to transcend time.
In August the BET Africa Channel also honoured the South African legend with a biopic titled – Nkalakatha: The life of Mandoza.
More recently, Nkalakatha was also played at this year’s Rugby World Cup, when the Springboks beat France in the quarter final of the competition.
Meanwhile, some of the other artists selected to receive a Lifetime Achievement award include Pops Mohamed, Gloria Bosman and Ihhashi Elimhlophe.
