Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has confirmed that Jaco Pieterse, the principal of Bergview College, is one of three suspects implicated in the shocking rape case of a seven-year-old girl, Cwecwe.
The investigation has sparked widespread outrage, and Senzo’s announcement marks a significant milestone, as DNA evidence has been secured from all three suspects.
Senzo assured the public that the investigation is progressing swiftly, with forensic evidence now in hand. The case has raised serious concerns about the integrity of institutions entrusted with childcare, and parents at Bergview College are demanding action. Some are even calling for the school to be closed until the investigation concludes.
Child welfare experts emphasise the importance of providing trauma support to the young victim and adopting a child-centred approach throughout the legal proceedings. Minister Senzo has reiterated the government’s commitment to tackling gender-based violence and child abuse, stating that “no one is above the law” and promising accountability for this heinous act.
The story broke last year November when her parents shared on Facebook that they are dealing with an issue where their child was sexually assaulted at school.
When the story broke again recently, it was revealed that the principal had refused to give his DNA sample for testing.
This story touched many people including celebrities as a result there is a hashtag initiative that started #justiceforCwecwe and the movement to making sure that justice is served is loud enough that even the minister is hands on this case.
