Given the rivalry between Nigeria and South Africa, the West African country could not help but rub their win against Bafana Bafana at the AFCON semi-final by celebrating with Tyla’s hit song Water.
The South African national soccer team took on Nigeria in a nail-biting match on Wednesday evening that ended 1-1 after 90 minutes, which then resulted in the loss of a 4-2 penalty shootout. The team will now go on to face the Democratic Republic of Congo in a match for third place on Saturday evening.
Since the match, Nigerians have continued to show their pride for their team (known as the Super Eagles, who will face AFCON host country, Cote d’Ivoire, for the cup) by blasting Tyla’s Grammy-winning song. Some have even taken part in the Water dance challenge that made the song go viral on TikTok.
In one video posted on X (formerly Twitter), hundreds of students from Ahmadu Bello University were seen belting out Water following the match, reports British public service broadcaster, BBC.
