Businesswoman and media personality Shauwn Mkhize recently ended her silence amid financial turbulences caused by South African Revenue Services (SARS) troubles, which led to her soccer team being auctioned.
The construction mogul has been mum since her soccer team, Royal AM, was up for sale in an auction that was facilitated by SARS curator Jaco Venter, following her debt of approximately R40 million in tax.
According to Mail & Guardian, her unpaid taxes prompted SARS to do a search and seizure, where police and law enforcement raided her properties, where luxury vehicles, which included a Lamborghini and a Rolls Royce owned by Shandi Trust and Royal AM, were seized and auctioned to recover her outstanding taxes.
Recently, she took to her Instagram story to end her silence by saying: “My side of the story doesn’t matter anymore. Life happened, it hurt, I healed. But most importantly, I learnt who deserves a seat at my table and who will never seat again,” she penned.”
SARS actions led to financial difficulties for Shauwn and her football club, leading to the inability to pay salaries and the club not being able to fulfil fixtures, leading to it being removed from the Nedbank Cup and subsequently being up for sale in an auction to recover the SARS debt.
The auction took place in March with Durban businessman Chockalingham ‘Roy’ Moodley, who is reportedly embroiled with former President Jacob Zum, tabling the highest bid of R20 million, even though the asking price was a refundable deposit of R1 million. However, he was deemed unfit to take over the team, as he apparently did not have a good record with SARS.
