Uncle Waffles is no stranger to receiving recognition and praise from international artists. The DJ has now been acknowledged by two-thirds of the members of Destiny’s Child – first Beyoncé and now Kelly Rowland.
Beyoncé sampled Uncle Waffles’ hit song Tanzania at her Renaissance World Tour. Now, Kelly confessed that she has been a supporter of the DJ (born Lungelihle Zwane) for almost a year.
During her sit-down on the podcast Pretty Smart with Danielle Robay, the Grammy Award-winning singer said, “It’s really cool to see artists come up with new ways; like there’s this really cool DJ out right now, her name is Uncle Waffles and she’s got so much personality … she’s so cool, she just played at Coachella but I’ve been knowing about this girl for at least a year now.”
She then said, “It’s really cool to feel like I’ve known this person since this time.”
While obtaining her international fame, Uncle Waffles met singer Ciara, and the two performed the DJ’s viral TikTok dance challenge to her song Yahyuppiyah.
Uncle Waffles had also performed at Ghanaian-British actress Michaela Coel’s Met Gala after-party. There she met Hollywood’s biggest stars, including supermodel Naomi Campbell and rapper Megan Thee Stallion.
Uncle Waffles was also co-signed by rapper Drake after he posted her on his Instagram Stories. While talking to BBC News Africa about how she felt about that, she said, “When everything happened people, of course, wanted to twist it. It was never just like somebody could genuinely like what you’re doing.”
She then added, “It felt good. I was just like, “Yo. This is the biggest artist in the world recognising me.”
