With school officially starting tomorrow, award-winning DJ and producer Ashley ‘Shimza’ Raphala put a few smiles on children’s faces when he decided to once again give back to his community by donating 1000 pairs of school shoes to learners in his hometown of Tembisa in Gauteng.
As per ZiMoja, Shimza’s Shimuzic Foundation partnered with the Hollywood Foundation (a KwaZulu-Natal-based non-profit organisation) to hand out the shoes under the banner 1000 Hopeful Soles. Shimza started his foundation in 2016 after he noticed a growing number of child-headed households and families living in dire conditions in Tembisa.
“It always feels important for me to give back to the community that supports me and my music,” said the Asamoya hitmaker, who has made quite a name for himself on a global scale. “This time of the year is hard for a lot of families and those who cannot afford school fees and uniforms. I just want to play my part in changing a young person’s life, even if it’s one child at a time. I want to see a change. This time, it’s 1000 kids.”
The same time last year, Shimza also gifted children located in Tembisa school shoes when he partnered up with the shoe company Bathu and the Hollywood Foundation.
Taking to Instagram to share his good deed, the deejay said, “Doing the little we can to keep the young ones in school, giving them hope to keep going 🙏🏾♥️ Shoes of Hope 🙏🏾♥️👞.”
