While many around the world celebrate Valentine’s Day on 14 February, award-winning chef Siba Mtongana shared why she and her hubby Brian start the love-filled celebrations a day earlier.
The Sibalicious chef explained on Instagram that for the last three years, she has spent most of her time at her Cape Town-based restaurant, SIBA – The Restaurant, including Valentine’s Day.
“I absolutely enjoy this part of my life as I don’t only cook with my team but also make time to mingle with guests which I know for some, if not most, is a very special touch,” added Siba.
Often referring to Brian as MHB (My Husband Brian) on Instagram, the mom of four also shared that her husband would always be there to support her and patiently waited for her to finish so that they could celebrate the special day.
Providing a reason for the pre-celebrations, The Great South African Bake Off judge said, “I made a decision that from now on, we will celebrate our Valentine’s Day a day earlier.” Showing off her outfit on the social media platform, she added, “So this is me ‘pretty in pink’ (those who’ve dined at SIBA will get what ‘pretty in pink’ means) going out with my bestie!”

This year, the couple will celebrate 14 years of marital bliss. On their 10th wedding anniversary, Siba shared, “As many of you will know, marriage is not a walk in the park, but be grateful if you have a partner who believes in you and your dreams, and you also believe in theirs too. It’s not a one-way street, it’s a partnership and a mutually beneficial one too. Support for each other is key.”
